Why I Love Photographing Hackness Grange Weddings
As a North Yorkshire wedding photographer, I’m lucky enough to work at some incredible wedding venues across the region, but Hackness Grange is a venue I always look forward to returning to. Nestled in the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside just outside Scarborough, it offers everything I love as a documentary wedding photographer; stunning surroundings, a relaxed atmosphere and endless opportunities to create natural wedding photographs without ever making the day feel like a photoshoot.
One of the things that immediately stands out about Hackness Grange weddings is how relaxed they feel. From the moment guests arrive, there’s a calmness about the venue that allows couples to slow down and enjoy every moment of their wedding day. As a Hackness Grange wedding photographer, I find that atmosphere makes a huge difference to the photographs. When couples feel comfortable and able to enjoy themselves, genuine moments happen naturally and those are always the photographs that mean the most years later.
The venue itself sits in one of the most beautiful parts of North Yorkshire and is surrounded by woodland, countryside and stunning views that provide an incredible backdrop for wedding photography throughout the year. Whether it’s a bright summer wedding, an autumn celebration surrounded by colour or a cosy winter wedding, Hackness Grange always offers something unique. The grounds work beautifully for relaxed portraits and allow couples to spend a few quiet moments together without disappearing from their guests for long periods of time.
As a documentary wedding photographer, I’m always looking for real moments rather than staged ones. While beautiful locations are important, it’s the atmosphere and emotion of a wedding day that truly matter. Hackness Grange seems to bring out the very best in people. The laughter during drinks receptions, the emotional reactions during speeches, the hugs, the smiles and those little moments between couples that often go unnoticed all combine to tell the story of the day.
One of the reasons Hackness Grange wedding photography works so well is because the venue offers so much variety. From elegant indoor spaces to beautiful outdoor surroundings, there are opportunities throughout the day to create a collection of images that genuinely reflect the personality of the couple and the atmosphere of their wedding. As a North Yorkshire wedding photographer, I’m always looking to create photographs that feel authentic rather than overly posed, and Hackness Grange is one of those venues where that approach works perfectly.
Over the years I’ve photographed weddings across North Yorkshire, Scarborough, Whitby, Saltburn, Middlesbrough and the wider North East, and Hackness Grange remains one of my favourite venues because it allows couples to simply enjoy their day. The venue never feels rushed, it never feels crowded and it creates the perfect environment for relaxed wedding photography.
When couples ask me what makes a great wedding photograph, my answer is always the same. It isn’t the venue, the weather or even the location. It’s how the day feels. The reason I love photographing Hackness Grange weddings is because the venue helps create an atmosphere where people can relax, be themselves and enjoy every second of their wedding day. When that happens, the photographs almost create themselves.
