Why I Photograph the Way I Do
“I do what I do for the smiles – and occasionally the tears – that my photographs bring to people’s faces.”
Photography, for me, is all about heart.
I’m deeply passionate about capturing life as it truly happens — the raw, unplanned, honest moments that often pass by in a blur but mean the most when you look back.
It’s the quiet glance between a couple when they think no one’s watching.
The laughter that erupts unexpectedly.
The tear a parent wipes away during vows.
These are the moments that make your story unique — and they’re the ones I live to capture.
I don’t believe in forced smiles or stiff poses. They never feel real.
Instead, I look for the connection — between families, between friends, between two people in love. That’s where the magic is. That’s where the emotion lives.
Trends in photography will always come and go, but true, honest moments are timeless. Those are the memories I want you to hold on to forever.
The way I photograph weddings is very relaxed and natural. I quietly blend into the day so you can actually enjoy it without feeling like you’re constantly being photographed. I’m not there to take over the wedding or turn it into a photoshoot — the aim is always to capture the real atmosphere and genuine moments as they naturally happen.
Rather than stiff posing or forced smiles, I focus on the laughter, the quick glances, the emotion and all the little moments people often don’t even realise are happening at the time. Of course I’ll give a bit of gentle guidance when needed, especially during group shots or a few relaxed portraits, but I always try to keep things feeling easy and natural.
Most of the time you’ll barely notice the camera is there, which is usually when the best moments happen anyway. Every wedding day is different, so I stay flexible, calm and easy-going throughout the day, adapting to whatever happens while creating a full set of storytelling images that genuinely feel true to you and your wedding.
Where It All Started
My love for photography began when I was just six years old.
I still remember the magic of holding my very first camera, the thrill of pressing the shutter, and then heading up to the loft with my dad — our little makeshift darkroom.
We’d develop prints together, hanging them over the bath, and I’d stand there in awe as the images slowly revealed themselves.
It felt like pure magic, and even then I knew I’d found something special.
That spark never left me.
For the past 17 years, photography has grown from a childhood passion into my life’s work. It’s no longer just something I do — it’s who I am. Every wedding I capture is another chance to tell a story, to preserve emotions, and to create something that lasts far beyond the day.
Today, I’m proud to call myself a documentary wedding photographer — capturing love, laughter and life as it naturally unfolds.
No posing. No pretence. Just real, honest moments that you’ll treasure forever.
Some photographers update their websites in fancy studios. I prefer toast, coffee, and questionable Wi-Fi
““Just another day ‘working hard’ at the local café… Laptop open, website updates in full swing — and a full English giving me the energy of a man who’s definitely not procrastinating. Some people have offices; I have coffee, Christmas decorations, and the constant battle between editing and eating. Wedding photography isn’t all glamorous locations – sometimes it’s beans, black pudding, and free Wi-Fi keeping the magic alive.””
Where I Work
I’m based in Brotton (TS12) and photograph weddings right across North Yorkshire and the North East. Over the years I’ve covered weddings in places like Saltburn, Guisborough, Whitby, Scarborough, Middlesbrough, Redcar, Darlington and throughout Teesside, along with venues and locations all across Yorkshire and the North East coast.
If your wedding is a little further away, that’s never a problem either — I’m always happy to travel. Every wedding is different, and I genuinely love getting to photograph new places and new stories along the way.

About Stuart — North Yorkshire & North East Wedding Photographer
For many years, I’ve had the joy of not only capturing love stories but also sharing my passion with others through photography workshops. Helping local photographers grow, passing on my enthusiasm, and watching them fall in love with the art of storytelling through images has been such a rewarding part of my journey.

Living here in beautiful North Yorkshire, I’m endlessly inspired by the landscapes, light and history that surround us. I feel genuinely spoiled for choice when it comes to wedding photography locations.
Some of my favourites — Grinkle Park Hotel, Rushpool Hall, Howard Court, Sneaton Castle and Danby Castle — each hold their own unique magic. From fairy-tale castles to elegant halls and countryside retreats, every venue offers a different backdrop and a new way to tell a couple’s story. I’ve had the privilege of photographing at these incredible places for years, and every time I return, I find something new and beautiful to capture.
Because for me, it’s not just about the venue — it’s about how your love fills the space and makes it unforgettable.
