A Year in Wedding Photography – Capturing Real Moments Across North Yorkshire & the North East

As the year draws to a close, I always find myself slowing down a little — not just to catch my breath, but to reflect on the incredible people, places and moments I’ve had the privilege of photographing.

This year has been filled with intimate weddings, emotional ceremonies, wild weather, quiet glances, loud laughter, and everything in between. From grand venues to registry offices, from countryside barns to elegant halls, every wedding reminded me why I fell in love with documentary wedding photography in the first place.

A Year of Real, Honest Weddings

One of the biggest themes of this year has been simplicity.

More couples chose to strip things back — fewer expectations, smaller guest lists, more meaning. Whether it was a Middlesbrough Registry Office wedding with just their children present, or a relaxed celebration surrounded by close family at Rushpool Hall, the focus was always the same: connection.

These are the weddings that stay with you.
The ones where emotions aren’t rushed.
The ones where moments unfold naturally.

As a North Yorkshire and North East wedding photographer, these days are exactly why I photograph weddings the way I do.

From Grand Venues to Intimate Spaces

This year saw weddings across some of the region’s most loved venues, including:

Each venue brings its own energy, its own light, and its own rhythm — and adapting to that is what makes documentary wedding photography so special.

Why Intimate Weddings Defined the Year

One thing that stood out more than ever this year was the rise of intimate and micro weddings.

Couples weren’t worrying about trends or traditions. They were focusing on:

  • being present

  • spending time with the people who matter most

  • creating a day that felt true to them

From short weekday ceremonies to relaxed half-day celebrations, these weddings allowed space for genuine moments — and those moments always make the strongest photographs.

My Approach Hasn’t Changed — And That’s the Point

After 17 years of photographing weddings, my approach remains simple:

I don’t stage moments.
I don’t force smiles.
I don’t interrupt what’s real.

I quietly observe, anticipate, and document weddings as they naturally unfold — capturing the laughter, the nerves, the tears, and the in-between moments couples often don’t even realise are happening.

That’s what creates photographs that still feel meaningful years later.

Looking Ahead to 2026 & 2027 Weddings

If you’re currently planning a 2026 or 2027 wedding, now is a great time to get in touch. Dates at popular venues across North Yorkshire and the North East do start to fill earlier than people expect — especially for summer weekends and intimate venue favourites.

Whether you’re planning a relaxed manor house wedding, a countryside celebration, or a small and meaningful ceremony with just your closest people, I’d love to hear about your plans and talk through how I can document your day naturally and honestly.
Here’s to another year of real moments, honest storytelling, and weddings that feel truly personal.
