A Bit About Me – And Why I Still Care About Every Wedding I Photograph

I don’t think there’s ever really a point where photographing weddings becomes just a job.

Even after more than 17 years of doing this, I still go into every wedding with the same feeling I had when I first started — that mix of anticipation, focus and, more than anything, a real passion for what I do.

I’m Stuart, a North Yorkshire wedding photographer, and I photograph weddings across both North Yorkshire and the North East. Over the years I’ve worked at all sorts of venues, from coastal locations around Whitby and Saltburn to countryside barns and historic houses further inland.

But no matter where the wedding is, the part that’s never changed is how much I genuinely care about capturing it properly.

Where it all started

My love for photography began when I was just six years old. I still remember the magic of holding my very first camera, the thrill of pressing the shutter, and then heading up to the loft with my dad — our little makeshift darkroom. We’d develop prints together, hanging them over the bath, and I’d stand there in awe as the images slowly revealed themselves. It felt like pure magic, and even then I knew I’d found something special. That spark never left me. Over the past 17 years, photography has grown from a childhood passion into my life’s work. It’s no longer just something I do — it’s who I am. Every wedding I capture as a North Yorkshire and North East wedding photographer is another chance to tell a story, to preserve emotion and to create something that lasts far beyond the day. Today, I’d describe my approach as documentary wedding photography — capturing love, laughter and life as it naturally unfolds. No posing, no pretence, just real, honest moments that you’ll actually want to look back on. And while some photographers update their websites in fancy studios, I’m usually doing it with toast, coffee and questionable Wi-Fi.

yep thats me at a very young age!

It’s More Than Just Taking Photos

Photography has always been something I’ve been passionate about, but weddings take that to another level.

You’re not just taking pictures — you’re documenting something that matters. Something that people will look back on for years.

As a North East and North Yorkshire wedding photographer, that’s something I never take lightly. Every wedding is different, every couple has their own story, and every day has moments that won’t happen again.

That’s what drives me.

A lot of my admin work tends to happen away from home. I’ve always liked taking my laptop out to one of my favourite local café, grabbing some breakfast and a good coffee, and getting stuck into things there. There’s something about that change of environment that helps me focus, whether I’m going through a wedding gallery or catching up on emails. It’s a bit of routine I’ve fallen into over the years, and it’s one of those simple parts of the job I genuinely enjoy — good coffee, a quiet corner, and getting to relive a wedding day while working through the photog

Being Present in the Moment

One of the things I love most about wedding photography is being right in the middle of everything while still quietly observing it all unfold.

From the build-up in the morning to the energy later on in the evening, there’s always something happening. The эмоtion, the laughter, the small interactions that most people don’t even realise are taking place.

Those are the moments I’m always looking for.

As a North Yorkshire wedding photographer, I’ve learned that the best photographs aren’t the ones that are forced or staged. They’re the ones that happen naturally when people are just being themselves.

Passion in Every Wedding

Even now, after photographing so many weddings across North Yorkshire and the North East, I still approach each one with the same level of care and attention.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s a big celebration or a smaller, more intimate day — the importance of it is exactly the same.

Every couple has put time, effort and эмоtion into planning their wedding, and for me it’s about doing that justice through the photographs.

That’s where the passion comes in. Not just enjoying photography, but genuinely caring about capturing the day properly.

Keeping Things Relaxed

A lot of couples worry about feeling awkward in front of the camera, and that’s completely normal.

Most people aren’t used to being photographed, especially for a full day.

The way I work is to keep things as relaxed as possible. I don’t try to control the day or turn it into a photoshoot. Instead, I let things happen naturally and step in when needed.

That approach allows people to relax, which is when the real moments start to happen.

And those are always the photographs that mean the most.

Why It Still Means So Much

There’s always a moment during a wedding where everything just clicks.

It might be during the ceremony, when the couple see each other for the first time. It might be during the speeches, when emotions start to show. Or it might be later in the evening when everyone is just enjoying themselves without thinking about anything else.

Those moments are different at every wedding, but they all carry the same kind of feeling.

That’s why I still love doing this.

As a North Yorkshire and North East wedding photographer, it’s not just about the images — it’s about being part of something that matters and capturing it in a way that feels real.

A Few Words If You’re Planning Your Wedding

If you’re currently planning a wedding somewhere across North Yorkshire or the North East, you’ll probably already know how quickly everything starts to come together.

Photography is just one part of the day, but it’s one of the few things that stays with you afterwards.

If you’re after something natural, relaxed and focused on real moments, then that’s exactly how I approach things.

No pressure, no overcomplicating it — just capturing the day as it happens, with the same passion and attention I bring to every wedding.
