A Day Full of Heart, Laughter and One Very Important Labrador

Some weddings just have a certain feeling about them from the moment the day starts, and Simon and Karen’s wedding at Grinkle Park was definitely one of those.

It wasn’t over the top or trying too hard to be anything it wasn’t. It just felt genuine from start to finish — full of good people, loads of laughter and the kind of atmosphere that makes you realise very quickly how much everyone there cared about the two of them.

As a Grinkle Park wedding photographer, those are always the weddings that stay with you.

The Calm Before Everything Began

The morning had that mix of excitement and quiet nerves that every wedding seems to start with.

People chatting, final touches happening, music on in the background and that slow realisation that the day everyone had been waiting for had finally arrived.

There’s always something I enjoy about this part of the day as a North Yorkshire wedding photographer. Nothing feels forced yet. Everyone’s just present in the moment, and that’s usually where some of the most natural photographs happen.

Dexter the Best Man

Now… every wedding has someone who quietly steals the show.

At Simon and Karen’s wedding, that role definitely belonged to Dexter — their black Labrador and, officially, the best man.

Honestly, he took the role very seriously.

From wandering around greeting guests to being right in the middle of everything throughout the day, Dexter brought so much personality and warmth to the wedding. The reactions from people whenever he appeared were brilliant, and you could tell how important he is to both Simon and Karen.

As a North East and North Yorkshire wedding photographer, weddings that include dogs always bring something extra to the day. There’s just something about them that instantly relaxes everyone and creates so many natural moments.

And Dexter definitely did that.

A Ceremony Full of Emotion

The ceremony itself had such a lovely atmosphere to it.

There was emotion from the start, but not in a heavy way — more that feeling of everyone being completely invested in the moment. The smiles, the little reactions between people, the nerves disappearing once everything finally got going.

Those are always the moments I’m drawn to photographing.

As a Grinkle Park wedding photographer, the venue works beautifully for ceremonies like this because everything feels intimate without being too formal. The setting adds something special, but the focus always stays on the people and the atmosphere around them.

Why Grinkle Park Works So Well for Weddings

I’ve photographed weddings across North Yorkshire and the North East, and Grinkle Park is one of those venues that always seems to create a relaxed atmosphere naturally.

The grounds around the venue are beautiful without feeling overdone, and the layout allows the whole day to flow really easily. Guests settle in quickly, people relax, and that’s usually when the best moments start happening.

From a photography point of view, venues like this are ideal because couples don’t need to disappear for ages to get great photographs. Everything is right there, which means the day keeps its natural rhythm.

That makes such a difference.

The Energy Shift in the Evening

As the day moved into the evening, the atmosphere lifted again completely.

Once the speeches finished and everyone relaxed into the celebrations properly, the energy in the room changed. People laughing louder, music starting up, the dance floor filling and everyone just enjoying themselves without thinking too much about anything else.

That’s usually the point where weddings feel completely alive.

Working alongside the team at Grinkle Park is always a pleasure as well. The staff there are brilliant at what they do and help keep everything running smoothly in the background, which allows the whole day to feel effortless.

A Wedding That Felt Completely Real

What stood out most about Simon and Karen’s wedding wasn’t one single moment.

It was the feeling of the whole day.

Nothing felt forced, nothing felt overly staged — it just felt honest. A couple surrounded by people who genuinely love them, celebrating properly and enjoying every second of it.

As a North Yorkshire and North East wedding photographer, those are the weddings I connect with most. The ones where people are just themselves and the day unfolds naturally around them.

And of course… having Dexter there as best man definitely helped as well.
