Jonathan & Vicki’s Beautiful Wedding Day at Scarborough Spa
It was such a privilege to capture the wedding of Jonathan and Vicki — a wonderful couple whose love for each other shone brightly from the moment we met, right through to the beautiful twilight hours. Celebrating at the iconic Scarborough Spa, and held in the stunning Suncourt, this afternoon and evening wedding had that magical, romantic atmosphere you dream of. As a natural wedding photographer covering North Yorkshire and Teesside, I absolutely love working here; the Suncourt is such a unique space, and as the sun goes down and the lights come on, it becomes pure magic — perfect for relaxed, timeless wedding photography by the sea.
The Afternoon: Starting at Scarborough Cliff Lift
My afternoon began in the most beautiful way — meeting Vicki and her bridal party at the famous Scarborough Cliff Lift, as she made her way down from where she had been getting ready. It was mid afternoon, it was the perfect spot to start telling the story of their day. Surrounded by the stunning scenery of the South Bay, with fresh sea air and that wonderful buzz of excitement in the air, we captured some truly beautiful, natural portraits on her way down.
Vicki looked absolutely radiant. Her dress looked incredible against the coastline and the historic lift, and we took our time getting those relaxed, unposed shots that show exactly how she felt in that moment. Starting here gave us such lovely, meaningful images before we even made our way to the venue. It’s details like this that make wedding photography in Scarborough so special, and I love including these local landmarks in my work.
Meanwhile, Jonathan was making his way over, calm, smiling, and clearly so excited to see his bride. True to my relaxed style of photography, I captured them enjoying the build-up — plenty of jokes and laughter, no stiff posing, just real moments as they arrived at Scarborough Spa.
The Ceremony: Romance in the Scarborough Spa Suncourt
We all gathered at the venue, making our way into the magnificent Suncourt — one of the most beautiful parts of Scarborough Spa. With its glass roof, high ceilings, and light, airy feel, it’s such a stunning place for a wedding ceremony, especially with deckchairs as the seating. Jonathan was waiting nervously but happily, and when Vicki walked in, looking beautiful after her journey down the Cliff Lift, his face just lit up — such a genuine, heart warming moment I was so glad to capture.
Their ceremony was personal, heartfelt, and full of meaning. They exchanged vows that brought a tear to many eyes and rings that symbolised their promise to each other. Being in the Suncourt meant we had incredible natural light and with the sea just outside, the atmosphere was simply magical. Whether you are planning an afternoon, evening, or twilight wedding, this space is absolutely perfect — and as a Yorkshire coast wedding photographer, I can honestly say it’s one of my favourite places to work.
Twilight Portraits & Coastal Views
After the ceremony, we stepped outside to make the most of the location. We took family group photographs on the terraces. Everyone was in high spirits, the weather was lovely, and the sea breeze added that fresh, crisp feeling to the air.
Jonathan and Vicki were brilliant in front of the camera — completely relaxed and natural, which always makes my job so much easier and results in the best photos. As the sun went down and twilight set in, we used the Spa’s architecture, the fairy lights, and the evening glow to create romantic, atmospheric that was totally timeless.
My approach is always to blend into the background so you can enjoy your day, while I capture the story as it unfolds. Whether it’s a grand venue like Scarborough Spa or an intimate gathering, I specialise in relaxed, documentary-style wedding photography that focuses on the people and the love, not stiff poses.
Evening Celebrations: Suncourt Suite by Night
Back inside the Suncourt Suite, the transformation was incredible. As darkness fell, the room was lit with warm lights and beautiful decor, creating such a cosy, celebratory atmosphere. Guests enjoyed drinks and the chance to mingle while I captured candid moments of laughter, hugs, and joyful reunions. The staff at Scarborough Spa were fantastic, as always, making sure everything ran smoothly so everyone — including me — could just enjoy the evening.
The wedding breakfast was held in style - Fish and chips - True seaside themed. Then came the evening reception: the music started, the dancefloor filled up, and Jonathan and Vicki shared their first dance as husband and wife, surrounded by all their favourite people. It was such a magical moment, with the twilight sky visible above and the room glowing all around them. I stayed late to capture all the fun, energy, and spontaneous moments that make an evening wedding so special.
