Same-Sex Wedding Photography Across North Yorkshire & The North East

Every wedding is different, and honestly, that’s exactly how it should be.

Over the years I’ve photographed weddings across North Yorkshire and the North East for all kinds of couples, and the one thing that always matters most is creating a day that feels genuinely like you. No pressure to follow traditions that don’t fit, no expectations to do things a certain way and no feeling like your wedding has to look like everyone else’s. Just a wedding day built around the people, atmosphere and moments that matter most to you both.

As a North Yorkshire wedding photographer, my approach has always been relaxed, natural and documentary-focused. I quietly blend into the background and capture the real moments as they happen rather than turning the day into a photoshoot. That means genuine laughter, real emotion, quiet moments between people and all the little things that make your wedding unique.

Most couples tell me before the wedding that they feel awkward in front of the camera. Honestly, nearly everyone says it. That’s why I keep things calm and easy-going throughout the day. I’ll give a bit of guidance when needed, especially during group photographs or a few relaxed portraits, but most of the day is simply about letting you enjoy yourselves naturally while I document everything around you. The less you think about the camera, the more natural the photographs become, and those are always the images people connect with most years later.

One of the best things about weddings now is how personal they’ve become. Some same-sex weddings are huge celebrations with packed dance floors and live bands, while others are smaller, quieter and more intimate with close family and friends. Some couples want a countryside barn wedding in North Yorkshire, others prefer coastal venues around Whitby or Saltburn, and some simply want something relaxed and low pressure. There’s no right or wrong way to do it. The most important thing is that the day feels like yours.

I’m based in Brotton (TS12) and photograph weddings right across North Yorkshire and the North East, including weddings around Saltburn, Whitby, Guisborough, Scarborough, Middlesbrough, Redcar, Darlington and throughout Teesside. If your wedding is further away, that’s never a problem either. I’m always happy to travel.

Your photographer is with you for a huge part of the wedding day, so feeling comfortable matters just as much as loving the photographs themselves. I keep things relaxed, friendly and unobtrusive from start to finish. No awkward posing for hours, no constantly dragging you away from guests and no pressure for the day to feel staged. The aim is always simple — to capture the atmosphere and genuine moments in a way that still feels real years later.

If you’re planning a same-sex wedding or civil partnership somewhere across North Yorkshire or the North East and you’re looking for relaxed, natural wedding photography, feel free to get in touch and tell me a bit about your plans. Whether your wedding is a huge celebration or something much smaller and more intimate, the most important thing is creating a day that feels completely like you.
