What Happens Before, During, and After Your Wedding – Through the Eyes of a Wedding Photographer

As a professional wedding photographer covering North Yorkshire, The North East and the UK, my job goes far beyond simply taking pictures. From preparing weeks in advance, to capturing your big day, to carefully editing every photo afterward—there’s a whole process that ensures your memories are preserved beautifully.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at what really happens before, during, and after your wedding day.

Before Your Wedding Day

Long before I arrive at your venue, I’m preparing to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Communication & Planning

I’ll check in with you to confirm the timeline, ceremony details, and must-have wedding photos. Last-minute changes happen, but I want to be ready so there are no surprises.

Engagement & Pre-Wedding Shoots

I recommend a pre-wedding or engagement shoot. It’s not just about photos—it helps us build a connection so you feel more relaxed in front of the camera when the big day arrives. This also gives you a taste of my style, whether you’re looking for documentary wedding photography or something more posed.

My Pre-Wedding Prep

Behind the scenes, I’m busy:

  • Charging and testing batteries and backup gear

  • Formatting memory cards and packing spares

  • Organizing guest frames, mounts, and prints

  • Preparing paperwork and double-checking details

  • Packing little extras (like snacks—weddings are long days!)

By the time your wedding day arrives, everything is organized so I can focus 100% on capturing your story.

On Your Wedding Day

From the early morning preparations to the last dance, my role is to capture your day naturally and beautifully.

Bridal Prep & Details

I start by photographing the little things—your dress, shoes, flowers, and special gifts. I also capture the candid moments: parents’ emotions, laughter with bridesmaids, and kids’ excitement. These images form part of your documentary-style wedding photography, showing the real story of your day.

Ceremony Photography

During the ceremony, I work within the rules of the registrar or vicar, minimal movement—but I always position myself to catch your expressions and emotions.

Family & Group Photos

After the ceremony comes group shots. This part can be tricky (guests heading to the bar or bathroom), but I keep it efficient so we stay on schedule.

Couple Portraits

One of my favourite moments is taking you aside for romantic couple portraits. I don’t over-pose—I prefer natural interactions, genuine laughter, and little moments that reflect who you are as a couple. If you’re looking for relaxed wedding photography, this is where it shines.

Evening Coverage

From speeches to your first dance, I capture the joy, tears, and laughter of the evening. Working in low light can be challenging, but that’s when some of the most magical, atmospheric shots happen.

After Your Wedding Day

When the party is over, my work continues.

Secure Backups

As soon as I’m home, I back up every single image—onto multiple drives—so your wedding photos are safe.

Editing & Post-Production

Every image is carefully reviewed in Lightroom and Photoshop. Out of thousands of photos, I select the best, polish them, and sometimes retouch little distractions (like a background guest sneaking into the shot).

Final Delivery

Your photos are presented in a beautifully designed USB box or wedding album. These aren’t just pictures—they’re your family’s memories to treasure for generations.

Why Wedding Photography Is More Than “Just Taking Pictures”

Many people say, “You’re just a photographer.” But wedding photography is about so much more: planning, creativity, technical skill, and above all, passion.

I love what I do because I know these images will outlast the flowers, cake, and decorations. They’ll become the photos you show your children and grandchildren. And that’s why I put my heart into every wedding I capture.
